Trafalgar Update – 5/4/2021

Hey Everyone!

In 2007 when Sarah and I first felt led to build our family through International adoption, we were looking at El Salvador.  Our adoption agency was working with several countries at that time, including Ukraine, China, Brazil, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ethiopia.  Many deciding factors went into the program we chose.  Some countries were astronomically expensive, while others required lengthy stays (3-6 mos) in country.   Others were unabashedly corrupt, telling us up front we would need to bring thousands of dollars in extra cash to bribe government officials.  After looking through our options we settled on El Salvador with expectations of bringing home an infant-toddler girl in 6-9 months.

Four months into the waiting process things in the adoption world started to slow down and our hearts began to feel heavy.  And then, one night in February 2008, Sarah and I both had dreams of Africa.  I seldom remember my dreams, but I know Sarah’s was quite vivid.  We immediately felt convicted to change our course to the Ethiopia program, resubmitted our home-study and brought home our first baby girl (Mia Jane) in August the following year.  Soon after the El Salvador program shut-down.

This Sunday we’ll be starting a 4-week sermon series on the Book of Daniel called God is Able.  Before we begin it is important to know that the Book of Daniel is chocked full of dreams and visions, interpretations, and misinterpretations.  For anyone who feels far from God or doubts that God is still speaking, let them consider the Book of Daniel, how God got spoke, and got the attention of foreign kings because He wanted the world to know the true God of Heaven!  God is able to speak through His word AND our circumstances.  But in this crazy world… are we really paying attention?

Join us this Sunday for our first in the series:  Preparing for Babylon!

  • Mother’s Day:  This Sunday (May 9th) is Mother’s Day!  Don’t forget to call your Mom and let her know how much you love her!  Bring her to church with you and receive a special Mother’s Day blessing 😊
  • Luggage Drive:  Just wanted to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our Luggage Drive for our local DCS offices!  With your help we were able to give 9 decent suitcases, 12 duffle bags, 27 backpacks, 6 travel-totes, 18 blankets, 6 pillows and a whole tub full of toiletries and grooming supplies.   Someone even donated 10 gift-cards for the foster parents!  Items were divided between both Johnson and Brown Co DCS offices and Julie Stevens (a local foster care specialist) who spoke to our Trafalgar congregation last Sunday was thrilled by your generosity!  Keep praying for families in our community and for God to open new doors of ministry to the most vulnerable around us all the time.
  • Habitat for Humanity:  On May 12th we will be serving breakfast and providing a devotion for the next Habitat for Humanity build, which is in New Whiteland.  We are still in need of a few people to donate items (i.e., doughnuts, bagels, coffee, fruit, juice, etc.). and help set the table that morning.  We will need to arrive on site by 8:15am.  Please let me know if you can help or would sign up to donate!

All for Christ,

Travis Taylor
