Mount Auburn Church (Stones Crossing)

Back in 2013, Mount Auburn United Methodist Church and Trafalgar United Methodist Church established a partnership, guided by a list of objectives that included the following:

• To see disciples made for Jesus Christ
• Greater unity and love within the body of Christ
• Spiritual and evangelistic growth
• Renewal at Trafalgar United Methodist Church

The partnership also involved Mount Auburn providing pastor coverage at Trafalgar, as well as agreeing to guarantee Trafalgar’s mortgage loan on the church property.

In 2019, the partnership became more formal as the two congregations agreed to become one under the United Methodist Church.  And in 2022 another milestone event occurred with Mount Auburn’s decision to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church and to join the newly formed Global Methodist Church.  In that same year Mount Auburn Church officially incorporated in the State of Indiana and assumed ownership of properties at both the Stones Crossing campus and the Trafalgar campus.  Mount Auburn also assumed and re-financed the Trafalgar mortgage loan.

Several months ago, the Trafalgar congregation shared a request to separate from Mount Auburn and become independent, with the full intention of remaining with the Global Methodist Church.  The Trafalgar congregation has experienced growth and renewal in recent years, with corresponding strengthening of its financial position.

Earlier this year a work group of representatives from both Mount Auburn and Trafalgar began meeting to identify required steps to accomplish this separation.  Trafalgar team members have accomplished a number of those steps, including officially incorporating in the State of Indiana and securing mortgage financing for the property.

Mount Auburn’s Leadership Council believes this is God at work, using both congregations over these past 13 years to serve, support, and strengthen each other.  To invite others to follow and know Jesus, and to nurture them in their discipleship journey.  It is an opportunity to celebrate the spiritual renewal at Trafalgar and God authoring another chapter in the 200-year history of Mount Auburn Church.

On May 3 at 2:00pm a Church Conference will be held at the Stones Crossing campus.  Members will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed separation of the Trafalgar congregation and the legal transfer of property.  We hope you will plan to attend this important Church Conference activity.
