Where does the name Mount Auburn come from?

Curious where Mount Auburn Church got it’s name? Is it in the Bible? No. Actually it’s an American name. There are many Mount Auburns, but we believe our name is based on local geography. Unknown to some people, the old church site up was on the hill at Dye’s Walk.

If you look closely there used to be a creek that ran below that hill and under Three Notch Road (State Road 135). That creek was known as Auburn Branch (of Turkey Pen Creek). So the name comes from the church on top of the Mound at Auburn Creek and then Mount Auburn. It was at this location until 1904 when it moved to Stones Crossing.
