In 1904, the church across the road opened its doors, and in the bell tower hung a large church bell that faithfully called worshippers together for generations. When the old church building was eventually demolished, several community members recognized the historical significance of the bell and the stained-glass windows and worked to preserve them for future generations.
The bell was carefully lowered from the tower, but during the process its frame and wheel sustained damage. Following its removal, the bell was placed in the Patterson Barn, where it remained in storage for many years.
In 2024, a dedicated restoration team undertook the task of bringing the bell back to life. After approximately 15 years in storage, the bell emerged covered in dust, with a cracked frame and a broken side wheel. While the damage was significant, it was clear that the bell could be restored. One of the first challenges was simply moving the bell. Weighing close to 1,000 pounds, it required careful planning, specialized equipment, and plenty of determination.
The restoration work then began in earnest. The frame was repaired by welding the crack, reinforcing the base, and adding wheels to allow the bell and yoke to be moved safely. Volunteers devoted many hours to cleaning, restoring, and painting the bell. Piece by piece, the bell was carefully reassembled with its frame and base, preserving an important piece of our church’s heritage.
The culmination of this effort came on Christmas Eve 2025. For the first time in many years, the bell rang out once again. Its joyful sound echoed across The Courts, reminding us of our shared history and celebrating the dedication of those who worked to restore it. Seeing and hearing the bell once more was a beautiful addition to the worship experience and a meaningful connection to the generations who came before us.

Today, the bell stands not only as a restored historic artifact but also as a symbol of faith, community, and the power of preserving our heritage for future generations.
