Alexis Farmer (Rasmussen) began attending Mount Auburn as a middle schooler with her family. She especially remembers the many impactful summer missions trips she was able to participate in as a part of the youth group. After Alexis graduated from high school, she went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington. Though growing up believing in Jesus, she arrived at IU during an extremely difficult season of life feeling lost, confused, and purposeless, struggling with deep depression and hopelessness. Before the first week of classes as she was walking through campus, God spoke to her directly through a chalk advertisement on the sidewalk for Chi Alpha Campus Ministries; then He sent an old high school friend, then a Junior at IU, into her path. That Junior was in Chi Alpha, and she befriended, pursued, and loved Alexis.
This would begin the most powerful and transformative season of Alexis’s life, where she had several encounters with God, deepening her discipleship to Jesus in a community of college students passionately pursuing Him and His Kingdom. Her life was forever changed as God used Chi Alpha to show her the lasting power of real devotion to Jesus, real community among other disciples of Jesus, and the real responsibility that she had to share the good news of the Kingdom of God with others and invite them into that same devotion and community.
That is the heart of Chi Alpha: reconciling students to Christ through intentional life-on-life discipleship to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world. We believe that the college campus is the most strategic mission field in the world as people come to our universities for just a few short years during one of the most formative seasons of their lives–before they head all over the US and world into the marketplace and before they start families of their own. If God can grip the heart of a college student, he can change the world and the future generations to come.
Alexis has been on staff with Chi Alpha at Indiana University since 2019, where she has been able to personally mentor dozens of college students into devotion and obedience to Jesus within a community committed to seeing the campus of IU reached for Jesus. She met her husband, Jeremy, who joined their staff team at IU, in 2021, and they got married in 2024. Alexis has been the CMIT (Campus Missionary in Training) Director for the past four years, focused on raising up and training young vocational missionaries (typically recent college graduates) to keep reaching the college campus. She is also a Resource Team Leader, alongside her husband, focused on mentoring a group of about 7-12 young college students each year in their own walks with Jesus as they reach their peers on campus.
Because of all that God did in their lives in college, Alexis and Jeremy believe deeply that God’s Spirit is at work to transform the next generation of college students.”
